Strobe Lights on My Body

I wired the tubes beneath my collarbones
They pulse in white across my skin
The doorman checked my wrists for batteries
I told him keep the change and let me in

One flash my hand is on the rail
Next flash I am across the floor
You only catch me when I freeze
You never see me walking through the door

Strobe lights on my body
Flashing twenty times before you speak
I do not need the ceiling or the music
I leave afterimages on your cheek

My silk shirt gets a little warm
The glass is ticking right against my ribs
The bartender is squinting at the till
He drops the lime because he lost the dark

One flash my hand is on the rail
Next flash I am across the floor
You only catch me when I freeze
You never see me walking through the door

Strobe lights on my body
Flashing twenty times before you speak
I do not need the ceiling or the music
I leave afterimages on your cheek

Nobody asks me what the voltage takes
They only stand and watch the white go off
I wipe the sweat and look into the mirror
I never catch myself with open eyes

Strobe lights on my body
Flashing twenty times before you speak
I do not need the ceiling or the music
I leave afterimages on your cheek

Still flashing in the back seat of the cab
Still cutting through the driver's glass
You see me here, you see me there
You never see the seconds pass
