Your Dad's Lighthouse Oath

The salt is biting through the glass tonight
The black Atlantic rises in the gale
You let the wick run dry before the dawn
You turned your back and watched the harbor fail

His bible lies upon the copper floor
The names of sailors that he pulled from doom
You took the matches and you struck the dark
And brought a shadow in the tower room

Now the rocks are calling out your name
And the sirens weep along the coast
You broke your dad's lighthouse oath
You broke your dad's lighthouse oath
And you left the dead to lead the blind
With a cold black flame in your mind

He climbed those iron steps for forty years
His hands were bleeding just to keep the sun
You traded all the bloodlines of the reef
To see the shipwreck when the night was done

Now the rocks are calling out your name
And the sirens weep along the coast
You broke your dad's lighthouse oath
You broke your dad's lighthouse oath
And you left the dead to lead the blind
With a cold black flame in your mind

No bell can save you in the freezing rain
No prayer can mend the shatter of the beam
You stand alone upon the ruined stairs
Drowning inside a wicked winter dream

Now the rocks are calling out your name
And the sirens weep along the coast
You broke your dad's lighthouse oath
You broke your dad's lighthouse oath
And you left the dead to lead the blind
With a cold black flame in your mind

You broke the oath
The fire is dead
You broke your dad's lighthouse oath
