Alien Playground

The sun is loud on the avenue
I've never seen the sky this blue
People drinking coffee in the street
I don't know anyone we meet

It burns my eyes to see the cars
We're used to neon and empty bars
They walk their dogs and talk so fast
I feel like we're ghosts from the past

Welcome to the alien playground
Where the shadows hide away
We survived the graveyard shift
But we're lost inside the day

The bakeries are open wide
There's nowhere left for us to hide
I bought a paper just to hold
The morning air is strange and cold

You look so different in the light
Without the heavy coat of night
I didn't know your eyes were green
The brightest thing I've ever seen

Welcome to the alien playground
Where the secrets fade away
We survived the graveyard shift
But we're lost inside the day

I always thought when morning came
We'd go back home and stay the same
But I don't want to go to sleep
This is a promise I can keep

I held your hand when it was dark
Now we're standing in the park
The swings are empty in the sun
Our second life has just begun

Welcome to the alien playground
Where the darkness fades away
We survived the graveyard shift
And we're waking up today
