Looking for You

The front door sticks just like it did
The wallpaper is peeling green
I told the cab to leave the meter
To wait five minutes on the street

The third step screams when you step down
The plastic drawer is full of junk
Nine dead remotes and half a candle
A headless doll inside a trunk

I looked behind the water tank
Behind the cans of lima beans
I'm looking for you in the hallway
Like I don't know what empty means

The green ceramic frog is chipped
Mom said you dropped it on the floor
You swore you'd buy this whole damn building
And put a sauna by the door

I opened up the laundry chute
Just in case you got stuck tight
You always were the worst at hiding
You started laughing in the night

I looked behind the water tank
Behind the cans of lima beans
I'm looking for you in the hallway
Like I don't know what empty means

The lawyer said to sign page four
The realtor loves the morning light
I took your high school wrestling jacket
The blue one that was never right

I looked behind the water tank
Behind the cans of lima beans
I'm looking for you in the hallway
Like I don't know what empty means

You still owe me seven bucks
The yellow cab just tapped the horn
The floorboards here are way too cold
And I'm still looking for you
