Garden Hose Radio

My neighbour Gus is seventy-two
he waters concrete twice a day
says the driveway grows on him
if he treats it right

He's got a radio on the porch
held together with a belt
it only gets one station now
but man that station's good

And the evening rolls in slow
like it's paid by the hour

Garden hose radio
oh oh oh
playing songs from long ago
oh oh oh
Gus conducts the sprinkler
like a maestro in a vest
garden hose radio
oh oh oh

I bring two beers he brings the chairs
we don't say much at all
the driveway shines the music plays
the moths run the light show

And the evening rolls in slow
like it's paid by the hour

Garden hose radio
oh oh oh
playing songs from long ago
oh oh oh
Gus conducts the sprinkler
like a maestro in a vest
garden hose radio
oh oh oh

Gus turns the water down to nothing
the station plays one slow
he says your granddad loved this one
and lets the silence go

Garden hose radio
oh oh oh
playing songs from long ago
oh oh oh
Gus conducts the sprinkler
like a maestro in a vest
garden hose radio
oh oh oh

One station's all you need
when it's the right one
