Ramona

Half past midnight, Red River Street
Boot heels up on the brass rail
The band's been borrowing Petty all night
Close enough, and nobody cares
She's pulling taps with both hands flying
A lime-wedge smile behind the bar

The singer leans out on the last line
Swaps the words with a wink
Drops her name in the chorus
Now the whole room owns it

Ramona! Ramona!
Fill it up one more round
Ramona! Ramona!
Best song this side of town
Sing it Ramona
Ain't nobody sitting down

She wipes her hands and ducks the counter
Takes a bow in the pool-table light
A tray of shots rides overhead
Passed along hand to hand
Somebody's hat lands on her head
She wears it like a crown

She grabs the mic from the singer
Points it back at the crowd
Every voice in the building
Hands her name back to her

Ramona! Ramona!
Fill it up one more round
Ramona! Ramona!
Best song this side of town
Sing it Ramona
Ain't nobody sitting down

Last call's chalked up on the blackboard
Nobody's reading it tonight
The band tears into one more
She's out front singing lead

Ramona! Ramona!
Fill it up one more round
Ramona! Ramona!
Best song this side of town
Sing it Ramona
Ain't nobody sitting down

House lights up, she's still out front
Receipts like confetti on the floor
One more from the doorway
Ramona Ramona
