Slow Burn Summer

You put your feet up on the dashboard
like the car belonged to you
It didn't, and it doesn't
and you did it anyway

That was June, that was all June
and June went on for years

Slow burn summer
nothing happened and it changed everything
Slow burn summer
we just drove around and got older
I keep waiting for the part
where it turns into a story
Slow burn summer
it never does, it never does

We had a tape that ate itself
by the second week of August
And we played the same four songs
until we couldn't hear them

Slow burn summer
nothing happened and it changed everything
Slow burn summer
we just drove around and got older

I'm not sad about it
that's the thing people get wrong
I'd just like one more afternoon
of absolutely nothing

Slow burn summer
it never does, it never does
Slow burn summer
we just drove around

We just drove around
