Tear the Ceiling Down

The movers left an hour ago
Took every box we used to own
Left two cold beers on the floor
And twenty rooms of naked stone
I plugged the speakers in the wall
Before we even found the bed
Turned every knob up all the way
Just like the devil in my head

There is no curtain on the glass
The street can watch us if they care
You kick your boots against the baseboard
With all that thunder in your hair
We got no table for the bread
We got no lock upon the gate
I never wanted things to keep
I only wanted what we make

Turn it up, tear the ceiling down
Two heartbeats shaking this whole town
Echoes running wall to wall
Nothing here to break the fall
Barefoot dancing on the pine
Take your reckless hand in mine
Empty house and full blast sound
Turn it up, tear the ceiling down

I told you once I needed room
I lied to sound like some tough man
I can't survive a single night
Outside the shadow of your hand
You spill your drink across the hall
And laugh until you start to choke
This place is hollow as a drum
Waiting for every word we spoke

Look at the dust under the lights
Swirling like embers in the dark
They thought we'd never pull this off
They said we'd never leave a mark
Well here is fifty feet of floor
And sixty watts of pure electric roar

Let the neighbors call the law
Let the siren come and whine
They can take the keys tomorrow
Tonight this kingdom's yours and mine
I don't need a single chair
To know you're staying right in there

Turn it up, tear the ceiling down
Two heartbeats shaking this whole town
Echoes running wall to wall
Nothing here to break the fall
Barefoot dancing on the pine
Take your reckless hand in mine
Empty house and full blast sound
Turn it up, tear the ceiling down

Nothing in the corners now
Nothing but the heavy sound
Just you and me and naked pine
Turn it up, tear the ceiling down
